Free Thinking - Kenneth Clark's Civilisation and the Future of Arts Broadcasting

Our mutual friend commends tonight's 'Free Thinking' to the 'Friends of Radio 3' (FoR3), french frank, and to everyone reading 'The Radio 3 Forum'.

"What is the future of arts broadcasting? What does it mean to explore art through the prism of a landmark series? In an increasingly diverse broadcasting landscape what could a new version of a programme such as Civilization say about the role of the Arts now?

Philip Dodd chairs a debate about arts broadcasting, past and present. His panel is Dr Janina Ramirez and Dr Gus Casely-Hayford, both of whom combine art history with broadcasting careers, Charles Uzzell-Edwards who creates his graffiti artworks and runs the Pure Evil Gallery and Kim Evans, award winning film maker and former head of Music and Arts at the BBC."
I could not possibly comment, at least not until listening ...

Thank you very much for the reminder, kleines, in your inimitable fashion.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Kleines thanks you for the compliment, and wishes you all well!

Tate - What is the future of arts broadcasting?

As for last night's excellent radio debate, well, it was pointed out that 'Civilisation' had already been remade for radio in Neil MacGregor's 'A History of the World', if not quite reborn for television.

Our mutual friend reckons that 'What is Civilisation?' would be a good question for the 2014 Free Thinking Festival. Who's in control, after all? As for the future of arts broadcasting, well, the BBC still does a bit, although perhaps it has to become a lot more interactive in the digital age.

As for me, I am not going to agree at all. This is art?
