Default Six Nations Starts and Superbowl Tomorrow

...phew that was a rather unconvincing victory [still a win though] but a great game to watch ...

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_union/9386391.stm

(England beat Wales at rugby last night ...)

    Italy v Ireland
    France v Scotland

    both today on BBC1 ....

as is the Superbowl tomorrow, as my chum in Az said don't call, America is closed ... this gladiatorial contest is one of the biggest sports media events on the planet ... so it will take over four hours to play a game of 60 minutes ...unmissable though ...

Does your sis go bonkers for Superbowl too, Calum?

It was a great game last night but unconvincing as the victory was, I felt that the right team won.

    And I'm Welsh!

I'm really glad to see a couple of rugby fans here (the majority of my weekends for the next few months will be taken up by it!) Totally agree about the match, it was compelling to watch, a not very convincing win but yet again Wales paying the price for stupid mistakes and indiscipline yet again (obviously I am a Wales supporter but the (slightly) better team did win!)

Looking foward to cheering Scotland on later today, obviously France are the favourites but I think Scotland has been improving, I would love to see them do well.

They are beginning to get the impact of speed through the middle; of early phase breakdown ....quick out 123 wallop....Those rucks at the end of the game should of 100% brought try if the forwards had not got so single minded....really bad mistake that has been in the England game for 20 years....with Ashton and Cueto built like small centres , their speed and bounce would have eaten it up....

    tim....flyhalf....

according to Brian Moore the English forwards were taking the ball forward incorrectly in the maul with the front man carrying not one or two layers back ...

When they are at ruck stage though, they can't do that because the men in front would be off side....they can do it at maul stage....surely that right innit....once the ball is on the floor [I believe] they should allow the scrumhalf more decision making, so as to time a full speed intervention of a three quarter coming from deep....but neither of the scrumhalves took any responsibility, and the forwards just trundled into defences, that have long been formed with the 3/4 lying flat....If you watch the All Blacks their half backs are much more attentive of whats going on, and boss the forwards....and communicate to one another....

I listened to the commentary on BBC Radio Wales last evening, Anna and it appeared to be a very different game

Ol' Brian does try quite hard to offer a 'balanced' commentary but I could cheerfully strangle him sometimes - always assuming I could get my hands round his huge neck. From what Eddie Butler said a few times in the television coverage, murderous instincts are not exclusively mine!

I would love to see Italy win!! Remember Scotland beat S. Africa and France's most recent match at the Stade de France resulted in a humiliating 59-16 defeat to Australia. I am hoping it'll be a cracking match. Am51, I watched it on BBC Wales and of course different commentators can put a different complexion on things. I really like Eddie Butler, he's made some very good programmes for BBC Wales about great feats of engineering (sorry, offtopic) What infuriates me (as mentioned upthread) is the lack of discipline that infects Wales at the moment. And, early days yet, have England got out of the habit of simply running out of steam in the second half?
