Handsome Husband has posted the 6 Nations schedule on the fridge door...and is now at his local watering hole watching France v Scotland. This series brings all the expats out of the woods and down to a very good Irish pub that has a subscription to Setanta. There are lots of rugby enthusiasts here both homegrown and from any of the 6 nations (as well as S. Africa, NZ, and Aus.). It makes for a lively crowd down the pub!

As for the "stupor bowl" (as my late father called it) we might watch for the heck of it (and the commercials!) but aren't supporting one side over the other. New England Pats didn't get to the finals so there's only academic interest here. Still, a Super Bowl party is always a good occasion to eat high-powered snacks and drink a lot of beer. Our son in San Francisco (where it is 70F) is supporting the Steelers over Green Bay.

I really thought Italy had it, then O'Gara with less than 3 mins to go came, again, to the rescue. Scotland v France, was a total disappointment. I had expected so much more from the Flowers of Scotland and got bored, and did a crossword. So, a mixed weekend, but only the start!

I know not Superbowl, that looks like total rubbish. Only other sport I follow is cricket.

Though I can't stand rugby (the sporting glorification of the physically strong over the weak), I offer my hearty congratulations to our historical allies and good friends, the French ... they even play in our national colours, God bless 'em.

That's a shame, Anna - if you switched off early, perhaps on the basis of the first 15 minutes or so (admittedly ugly from Scotland's perspective), then you missed easily the best game of the three this weekend. Seven tries, lots of free-flowing attacking rugby and, though well beaten, Scotland played a full part in a cracking game.

Watching rugby is like watching paint dry (I'll get my coat and take cover!)
