"Society is indeed a contract. It is a partnership in all science; a partnership in all art; a partnership in every virtue, and in all perfection. As the ends of such a partnership cannot be obtained in many generations, it becomes a partnership not only between those who are living, but between those who are living, those who are dead, and those who are to be born.”

This word "digital" is becoming increasingly confused with the word "downloads". CDs are digital; they always have been.

Downloads are digital recordings, usually with bits missing.

I think the fisher was referring to the fact that the two recordings which he possesses were recorded in the analogue era and subsequently transferred to (digital) CDs, not recorded digitally from the outset (as, for instance, the BAT's second recording).

The Florestan is marvellous but I still find Casals & T & C best of all .

yes, I too liked the Florestan, and also his recommendation, the Beaux-Arts - but the two which really caught my attention were those by the Cortot/Casals/Thibaud and the Suk Trio. Both (and also the Beaux-Arts) available very cheaply!!

    Good evening Barbirollians

Maybe you are right - but for my money a scratchy old 'outside lavatory' accoustic is not really in the running when it comes to it...

Jazbo, I think you'll find that's the other trio D929 in Ebma rather than D898 in Bbma

I understand entirely why many would not regard this as a library choice 8 decades on . As a performance however I find it spellbinding and I soon forget any problems with the sound - like Monteux's 1929 Rite, the Krasner/Webern Berg Concerto and Elgar's own recording of his symphony No 1.
