    Default Split words

A few (?) weeks ago the format in which a message appeared as I type it (eg now) changed and instead of words appearing complete, a word might be broken over the end of a line. In fact, it's happened now because the 'because' appears as 'beca' on the end of line 2 and line 3 begins with 'use'.

It only happens in the box in which I type; when I post, it reverts to normal.

Is there a setting I should change?

It shouldn't happen to a pedant like me.

It's been reported in another thread. No doubt ff has it on her 'looking into it' list.

What browser/version are you using, kernel b?

There have been for some time certain incompatibilities with some browsers. I don't think it's anything to do with any of the settings which you (or I) control. If the message looks all right to you and everyone else once it's posted, I think it's something you can only ignore. And it might go away ...

FF - I'm on a MacBook using Safari. Can't remember which version.

This isn't a big problem (I'm an experienced and fierce proofreader ): I asked because it seemed to start to occur not long ago so I assumed you'd changed something in the Boards. BW, kb

It also has an impact on the spaces between words once you press "go". Some words collide.

I have found that when I preview a message, but when I go back to edit I've found it was a typo, my fault

Same way as you usually do an acute?

On a Mac it's ALT + e followed by the letter you want the accent on. For the PC I use the character map, but that's because I can never remember numeric codes.

    for an e acute - ALT + 0233
    e grave - ALT + 0232
    e circumflex - ALT + 0234

... other numbers and accents available...
