Mailing or sharing files

What is your preferred method for sending or sharing files?

Ideally I want something something that is simple and quick (and free!). I looked at the large file option on Yahoo but it has major drawbacks:

"You grant YouSendIt and Attach Large Files access to:
- Obtain your Contacts data from Yahoo! Contacts.
- Read mail headers
- Read access to your public and shared Profile information is being requested."

That's not what I would want!

Mediafire has put me off as it links with Facebook etc, and appears to be slow to upload. Any suggestions?

(Sorry, I rarely post these days, but I "lurk" and still like to listen to Radio 3, time permitting. I loved it last night when the announcer's mike was cut off and for once I could prepare myself for the performance in anticipation, without having to listen to waffle. If they want cuts they should cut out announcers announcing the obvious before and between pieces!)

Either dropbox or Yousendit
I usually use the Yousendit free (up to 100mb) version
I've not come across anything like the conditions you quote as I have never "joined" it , simply use the desktop application
you could simply use the browser version

or if its a really big file I burn it to CD and use the post , how many people REALLY need things NOW ? Some of the people I work with have FTP servers so for that I use Cyberduck

anything that links with Stalkerbook is out for me too

Hello Flay <waves emoticon> nice to see you again!! Music files it's YouSendIt as Mr. GG says, if it's large text files then surely you just compress and Zip them up?

I've used YouSendIt (but they have a 100MB limit unless you pay), MediaFire and Rapidshare.

None of them fill me with joy - the upload is always pretty slow - but they work.

I think the problem you experienced with YouSendIt was because you were using it through Yahoo.

Thanks for the replies. What you say makes sense, johnb. It is cheeky to demand consent to pry on emails and contacts. It makes me think it is time to change from Yahoo mail.
