Earlier on Breakfast, part of Haydn's lovely Symphony no 98. I always get it mixed up with no 90, which has the false endings. No 98 stops and starts in rather the same way. I have both on CDs and may play them COMPLETE later, They are both ESSENTIAL to me, to use the 'in' word.

Was that from the Proms many years ago? I think I was at that one. Brilliant.

PS: Probably wasn't that performance - the dates on the CD don't seem to match and one of the pieces at least was recorded in the Usher Hall Edinburgh. The year (1971) if that's for the Tchaikovsky 4, seems possible though.

Your mention of this (a work new to me) prompted me to track it down. The short sound samples I listened to were enough to convince me to buy a download, which I look forward to listening to. Many thanks for drawing my attention to this.

Did you download the whole ( Chandos ) CD ? as all the performances are good , including ' Songs of the Fleet ' and ' A Ballad of the Fleet '.

Yes, the entire CD. No time yet to have a listen, but I will later on, beginning with Songs of the Sea.
