As a whole I like the CD, though it is a programme more suitable for CFM IMO.
As I wrote, the solo players in the 2nd mvt of the Coats are IMO excellent - but a bit at a distance.
Which is not the case in the Enescu - there IMO you hear too much of the inner workings of the orchestra, and it has its limitations... (but you only realise it's a live recording because of the public applauding at the end).
I think the Arnold is spot on.
Pity thst Malcolm Arnold is lumped together wuth light music again as so often.
Once again I have to voice my concern at the CFM-isation of the BBCMM CD. There is a definite trend emerging here and as if to confirm it I note that next month's CD features Dvorak's 'New World' Symphony.
Time to look again at the subscription?
