I'm greatly enjoying watching Hugh Grant giving eveidene to this enquiry

He's much sharper than I'd thought previously and rather impressive.

The chap questioning him is good at keeping him on track and so is Lord Justice Leveson when he chips in.

well bravo to the enquiry for broadcasting the streams and the bbc and sky for carrying it .... Hugh Grant was most impressive and rather deadly i thought ... no hyperbole not much he would say that wouldn'y he but a lot of thought through and substantiated arguments ...

No, I haven't changed my mind. I have seen snippets of it this afternoon, but generally I've had better things to do with my time than watch this. I just thought it was worth pointing out to amateur that Sky- part of his hated EVIL EMPIRE - were showing the proceedings as well.

An intriguing, and possibly worrying, side show to the inquiry is that the police have raided the home of Alec Owens (formerly of Merseyside Police) who was the lead investigator for the Information Commissioner's "Operation Motorman" inquiry, a whistle blower, and a critic of the ICO's decision not to interview any of the hundreds of journalists named in the 17,000 transactions listed in files seized from Hampshire private detective Steve Whittamore in 2003.

Alex Owens is due to give evidence before the inquiry on 30th November.

Taken at face value the story is very disturbing and makes me wonder whether the police are a law unto themselves.
