I think we should have a "North Korean" policy on phones

    ie

There is ONE sound for it ringing, it's a ringing sound
NOT crap music intruding in everyones acoustic environment

If my phone announced itself using an unpleasant smell then people would complain
but crap little tunes (and this does include bits of Bach etc ) are as antisocial as a gufftone

rant over ........... as you were
Oh now come along MrTwoGongs... Don't beat about the bush!

In fact it's sometimes very useful to have a unique ringtone, in an office environment. Once in a while it's helpful to know (e.g. phone in jacket pocket on chair) that if I hear Ton Koopman tickling the ivories, it's mine...

I find it's sometimes "useful" to be incredibly rude and also to smell badly
that way I seem to get a seat on the train easily !!!!

I also find it useful to carry a Cimbasso with me at all times for use in the quiet coach or during lulls in the conversation

I was going to make another indelicate remark about beating about the bush, deducing your thought process, Watson... But happily I thought better of it

(The answer to your question is: I hadn't...)

It is also useful to have different ring tones for one's company mobile telephone, one's personal mobile telephone and the one reserved for one's nom de guerre.

you're on fine fighting form today!

May I remind the honourable member for DoubleGong South that I mentioned earlier that my phone is almost never other than switched to 'silent'...

Indeed. And don't they make you appear to be much more interesting, if not quite fascinating member of the species ?

Actually my OH has asked if I could bootleg the pre-film announcent at ( the excellent ) Stoke Film Theatre, where the most gentle of male voices
enquires " Have you remembered to switch off your mobile phone ... "
