even though I use technology all the time (and do have an iPhone !)
I think we should have a "North Korean" policy on phones

ie

There is ONE sound for it ringing, it's a ringing sound
NOT crap music intruding in everyones acoustic environment

If my phone announced itself using an unpleasant smell then people would complain
but crap little tunes (and this does include bits of Bach etc ) are as antisocial as a gufftone

In fact it's sometimes very useful to have a unique ringtone, in an office environment. Once in a while it's helpful to know (e.g. phone in jacket pocket on chair) that if I hear Ton Koopman tickling the ivories, it's mine...

that way I seem to get a seat on the train easily !!!!

Actually my OH has asked if I could bootleg the pre-film announcent at ( the excellent ) Stoke Film Theatre, where the most gentle of male voices
enquires " Have you remembered to switch off your mobile phone ... "
