Thread: 'Classic FM-ification'

    Default 'Classic FM-ification'

Here's a big clue as to what we are being force-fed:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classic_FM_(UK)

The relevant line being halfway down the History paragraph: "The station rejected the "BBC Radio 3" style of presentation and took as its model New York's WNYC and WGMS in Washington, D.C., with their more populist mix of talk, light classical music, new artists and crossover classical records"

Therefore, i conclude, it is not Classic FM we have to fear, but a far greater influence from elsewhere.

One of the first things Nicholas Kenyon did on taking over as Controller was to send an R3 team to the United States to learn how their radio stations presented classical music. (Unfortunately, the idea was to copy the style rather than avoid it...)

But .... and it was a long time ago, I wrote to Nicholas Kenyon about the changes he was making and expressed my disagreement etc. He actually wrote back to me suggesting I give it a chance - I had no choice of course and that was that but .... I actually got a reply from the man himself!

    Bet that wouldn't happen now.

Well I haven't done it in a while but the boss replied to all my short notes. And in no time, too.

Semibreves used to be like the quavers of today, when breves, longs and larges were the standard notes. But quavers are invariably quite short these days.

Wagon Wheels used to be bigger, too.
