Default Dai Fujikura: Double Bass Concerto

    On H&N 21 Jan.

Absolutely brilliant! Nice contrast with Jonathan Harvey piece, but to those of us accustomed to hearing the double bass thumping away in the rhythm section, it was a revelation to the possibilities of the instrument. Skilful use of pizzicato, string section, brass and drums to lift the music out of the lower registers.

Apparently inspired by Japanese music. More Japanese music please!

Yes - a very organic set of sounds to get acquainted with - as if I was not already in an overflow condition of things to do.
But certainly showing up some of the limitations of Western music - although hasn't John Cage produced somewhat similar sounds in some compositions?
