We've lately been getting a few registrations from people who quickly post a message and leave a spam link in their signature. The House Rules - which new members are asked to read before they post - are clear on this:
"Signatures: No links of any kind are allowed in signatures. Relevant commercial links can appear in posts and links to personal websites may be included on profile pages. However, registering as a member purely to post weblinks is not allowed and accounts of this kind will be closed without notice."
If you spot such a link, please PM me. Hosts, if it's on your patch remove the link and notify me. In most cases now I am deleting the account at once. The rule on signatures applies to all members (though, of course, if a regular member forgets, that won't result in closure of the account). I think most of us should be able to tell the difference between a relevant commercial link posted to be of genuine use to members, and a spam link posted by an interested party. Personal websites can be publicised on profile pages.
(I'm trying to think of a suitable 'Radio 3' question for the registration process to replace the present one which has been cracked a few times now. Do not post suggestions here! )
