Met Opera; Anna Bolena 4.2.12

This was a thrilling performance of a work new to me and, surprisingly, to the Met.

Has anyone any recommendations for a CD? I thought Netrebko was terrific, and so did the Met audience.

If you want the pictures as well, head straight for Netrebko's Vienna performance from last April. I posted a review earlier this evening:

I suspect it's unlikely the Met performance (which was filmed for cinema relay in October) will appear on DVD, as DG tend to release these and went for the Vienna production instead.

On CD, it's tougher, as I indicate at the end of my review. Cheapest/ safest is probably Beverly Sills, now on Brilliant Classics, but I do hope Decca reissues the Suliotis/ Varviso recording.

Thank you for the information. That sounds like a new departure for the Met to stream a recording, rather than a live show, to cinemas. I shall try to see it. (Looking forward to Goetterdaemmerung in the cinema next Saturday.)

Sorry for the ambiguity. The Radio 3 relay yesterday was live. There was a run of performances last September/ October, one of which one was beamed live into cinemas on October 3rd. Then they reassembled for a few more shows now. Often, DG issues a DVD of the Met cinema relays (Netrebko's Lucia di Lammermoor and I Puritani being examples), but in this case, I doubt they will as they've chosen the Vienna production.
