    Early music on TTN

    Saturday 4th
Jonathan Swain presents Czech performances of concertos from 18th-century Prague.

For the first nearly 2 hours
Jonathan Swain presents Czech performances of concerti from 18th Century Prague. Includes Jiránek, Rosetti and Pokorný

Then from 4.30, another half an hour, ending with delightful 16th-century dance music on the chamber organ.

And this to look forward to on Wednesday 8th
    Il Giardino Armonico
Jonathan Swain presents a concert given by baroque specialists Il Giardino Armonico.

Keeping an eye to the TtN schedules means discovering quite a lot of music well off the throdden paths (though war horses can be found very regularly as well, of course), and my impression is, that especially the "older" music and "early" music is served better in that respect (i.e. unknown works, even for "Liebhaber and Connaisseurs") than 19th-21st C composed works.

I've often thought so. But I also have the impression that they are now splitting up early music concerts by inserting pieces from other periods between the items, which they used not to do.

Just on the edge of early music but another most enjoyable concert on the 5th

Jonathan Swain presents a concert of trios by Haydn

          Trios for harpsichord and strings:

All these concerts are, if I understand correctly, recorded by R3 equivalent of EU countries. I wish R3 would go out and record more early music concerts of other than mainstream names both composers and performers. Or maybe these are major names in their own countries?

EMS does have quite a lot of ‘BBC recording’. I wonder what happen to these recordings? Can they not be played on TTN?

Jonathan Swain presents Concerto Copenhagen in concertos by Vivaldi, Fasch and Pisendel.

The concert is a repeat (not the rest of the programme) but enjoyable all the same.

Have you been playing Musical Associations, Roehre?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Somewhat inappropriate to have a Passion on Easter Day.

I very much enjoyed their performance on Radio 3 Live not long ago.
