    There are various reasoned arguments that I would suggest might dispute your opinion, Alison, and prefer the view that he was one of the finest conductors ever.

    But I think Hornspieler put it far more eloquently!

    Just thought his chords sounded a shade flaccid; probably the acoustic.

    Pfitzner and Szell came off best there to my ears. Surprised Lenny only played 2 chords!

    On the evidence of the samples played, Blomstedt was my favourite.
    Otherwise my top recommendation remains VPO/Erich Kleiber.
