Default Rufus Wainwright on "In Tune"

I was forced to switch over to Classic FM this evening at about 6:25pm, so awful was the sound of Rufus Wainwriight performing his own settings of Shakespeare on "In Tune". I really could not bear to listen to his strangulated, out of tune delivery.

Why we were subjected to such torture I will never know- but Radio3 lost at least one listener this evening.
Whenever people agree with me I always feel I must be wrong.

That time-slot is one of many where I no longer even bother listening to R3. However, I must disagree about Rufus W. There have been several television programmes featuring him in recent months. I find something hypnotic and very musical about his unusual style of singing; a recreation of a Judy Garland programme of songs was especially interesting.

He is a singer I try to hear (and preferably see) as often as possible. The choice of him as the singer during the final credits of the film of Alan Bennett's History Boys was a stroke of genius - and extremely moving.
