Hi Hilary Jane, Why not try the YHA in London, they are busy I know given that the Games are on, I'm in YHA Holland Park for the opening weekend, YHA London Central for the 2nd weekend, they only charge £34.60 per night at London Central with Continental Breakfast, worth a try, hope that helps, Regards, Ian

& YHA's in Holland Park, London Central, St Pancras & Oxford Street are all virtually on the No 10 Bus Route which as you know goes past the Hall, Likely to be less packed out than the tube during the games as well, :-),

Did IC give any logical explanation for having to book a four night spell?
Also forgive my ignorance but surely the Olympics are over by the time of the Last Night?

I had the same e-mail as Hilary Jane. It is correct that Beit Hall are only accepting bookings for four night minimum stay while the other locations are accepting bookings for a minimum of SEVEN days.

The game is given away in the guff on the front page which burbles on about 'being only a hop, skip and jump away from all the Olympic action'.

This is rank profiteering and I hope everyone gives them a wide berth. Some of these leeches need to be taught a very big lesson and I hope they end up with plenty of empty rooms.

As already mentioned on another thread, the experience of other Olympic cities has been that tourists flee and rooms are plentiful. I'll be holding my nerve.

There's also an HI-YHA hostel in Earls Court to consider, depending on the dates that you'll be in London for The Proms, of course:

As Petrushka has said in her reply, it seems to be blatant profiteering because of the Olympics.

The Olympics themselves may be over by the Last Night, but the Paralympics will not be over until the day after the Last Night.

I do love the idea that Beit is "only a hop, skip and jump" from the Olympics. It's a bit further away than that! On the other hand, I actually live about 15 minutes away from the Olympics, which may or may not be a good thing come July!

As I recall, Beit Hall was closed last year for refurbishment, possibly to get the accommodation up to standard at which they could be certain of getting the sort of prices they are charging. They lost a year's booking income and presumably denuded their building refurbishment fund in the process. My guess is that they'd rather take a long booking to secure income rather than do 'in & out's for the first year.

I've been checking on a recently spotted Small Hotel in Bloomsbury for a possible Proms stay. A £42pn single room (sanz en suite) will be £50 with a minimum 5 night booking during the Olympics. I wouldn't mind the £50 sanz, but the five nights puts it out for me. Unless I told them I was going to the Proms not the Olympics? Perhaps?

It doesn't matter to them whether you are going to the Olympics, Proms or a naughty weekend in the great metropolis. I usually stop at a hotel in Bloomsbury but I have just checked and they are asking for a minimum 3 night stay but at inflated prices. There is blatant profiteering going on (no surprise really) and I will wait until prices fall. I'm told that cardboard city can be quite nice at that time of year.
