The Zinman Mahler '10' (Carpenter) dropped through the letterbox this morning. Not a hybrid SACD like the previous issues on the series but a Red Book CD.
Looks like Sony are holding the SACD back to con unwary folk like me into buying the CD first. I also note, having done a bit of Internet searching, that the SACD seems to be priced at around double that of the CD. I for one will not be bothering.

Arrived in the post today - Rach 3 and 4 (Andsnes/LSO/Pappano). Perfect music for this snowy weather! Am listening to it as I type and am just as impressed as I was with their first disc of Rachmaninov concertos. I've yet to be disappointed by any of Andsnes's recordings.

The Korngold Symphony as featured by AMcG this morning. I had it on order and had to pick it up at my local postal depot due to the snow, but my, it is an astonishing recording.

November additions:
Elgar: Violin Concerto etc. Tasmin Little, RSNO Andrew Davis (Chandos)
Mendelssohn: Sommernachtstraum, Tonkunstler Kristjan Jarvi (Preiser)
Boughton and Bainton: Tone Poems. RSNO Martin Yates (Dutton)
Bate: Sym 2 and Arnell: Sym 7. RSNO Martin Yates (Dutton)
Shostakovich: Sym 10. RLPO Vasily Petrenko (Naxos)
Dvorak:Sym 6 etc. Baltimore Marin Alsop (Naxos)
Tamberg: Joanna Tentata suite, Symph. Dances etc. Residentie Neeme Jarvi (Bis)
They have joined a large pile waiting to be played, apart from the Elgar which I have listened to several times. A very thoughtful performance.

When I started this thread, as an early contribution to the forum, I thought it was a fairly bland and common-place topic but it has proved to be fascinating.
(The drawback - there's just too much temptation in the recordings mentioned!)

Err.. nothing to do with last CDs acquired (Perahia's Brahms) but a question to Curalach about the very fine painting he has as his ...graphic? avatar? ... very fine indeed. Who is the artist?

Me and my younger sister are having a rather interestinmg journey(via cds!), opf the various Cavaille=Coll organs. The one that hjas really impressed me most and my sister is the one at the Madellieine in Paris. Our favourite French organ, though is the magnificient 'la Grande Orgues de la Cathedrale de St Pierre de Beauvais'.
