Thread: Controller's Monthly Note

  1. #1

    Default Controller's Monthly Note

April's just in, and no mention of World Music.

It's on the way to becoming a tradition...

As ever with our composer festivals many of you expressed a sense of loss when it was over
And, Mr Rajar, many of us breathed with sweet relief when it was over.

    fyi there are other shoes...

    and other Bert's

Suspect this 'note' was written about the beginning of February. Someone clearly not consulting R3's ONLY instant feedback facility - us. Plus ca change......?

The dissenters are a 'tiny, tiny minority'. And therefore can safely be ignored.

It doesn't matter whether they are jazz fans, world music fans - or classical music fans who have fundamental objections to composerthons, and want something different/better which wouldn't interrupt the jazz or world music programmes.

From my point of view though I do take some comfort that the 'tiny, tiny minority' all hang out together united through, er, oh yes, a liking for the sound and influence of r3...

    anyway enough whining.....

SO like he doesn't have enough knowledge of it to be able to write a sentence. SO money on the other hand no doubt sings in many languages to him. SO he is like every one in that sort of position. Like.

But isn't that an unfair line to take?

SO......I've forgotten what it is I was going to say but I'm a mover and shaker and every sentence must be begin with SO . SO I've even been on "You and Yours" where every executive somebody says SO. Yes?

    I'm sorry?

SO Billy Bragg was on there today talking about the national anthem and if I can think of anything else irrelevant I will say it. SO it all sounds relevant as long as it begins with SO. OK? SO have I used up the allocated time yet?

Yes. Thank you very much. Very illuminating.

Face it, Global, why don't you - Radio 3 is now 'the classical music station' for the masses. World Music is up in the graveyard slots, as is the (slightly diminished) jazz output. Iss the nu strategy which has shamelessly turned the previous strategy ('Radio 3 is not just a classical music station, you know') on its head.

I recommend that jazz and world music enthusiasts pump in the protests.

    And going back to:
As ever with our composer festivals many of you expressed a sense of loss when it was over
And 'you' being who exactly, you, the wife, the children and the R3 apparatchiks?

SO if you will just let me make my point; in all fairness, I have been asked on to this programme too and I didn't interrupt you when you were speaking.

But she hasn't been able to get in a word yet.

SO that is as it may be Jeremy, I know how you and the BBC like to slant things, bias is what we've come to expect, but shall we let the audience be the judge.
