    Default Priory Radio

I've just had an email from someone recommending Priory Radio as being perhaps of interest to people on this board.

[Now playing: Anton Bruckner - Tota Pulchra Es, oops! no, it's just changed]

I think the items may be versions currently available on the Priory Records site, but as long as one understands this, the idea seems fine.

Priory Radio. Is this a station for radio addicts?

Surely this is just a station advertising its products?

I assume so - that's what I said in the OP. But it is actually offering something free: you don't have to pay, you don't have to buy. It's just music playing, as far as I know.

Yes, in much the same way as Early Music Radio is a showcase for Lyrichord. I don't think that invalidates it. Pluralism can be a good thing, and since so much of the arts these days depends on some degree of commercial support, we shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.

I find it less offensive than the shameless plugging of its own label by Classic FM, and would rather listen to the Priory catalogue above CFM and, on increasing occasions, Radio 3.

Having worked out that it's not actually on the radio but is an internet only outfit (I'm a bit dim about these matters) and had a quick listen, it sounds pleasantly opinion free. One wonders (a) how much stuff Priory Records have recorded over the years...must be quite a bit to sustain 24/7 webcasting, and (b) if it's all available to hear for free, why bother buying it?

There's still an advantage to choosing particular discs which appeal, and being able to play them when(ever) you want to hear them.

I had a listen, and it was pleasant to listen to for one hour, but rather irritating for two hours, because at least two tracks were repeated in that time (including Bruckner's Tota Pulchra Es, with some variant words from what I know, and an organ arrangement of the overture to Meistersinger). That's a pity, because I'd have thought you could assemble quite a long playlist from the best of Priory.
