    Default Bayreuth Parsifal TV alert

Just an alert for anyone equipped to receive the Euro TV station Arte - it is carrying the live telecast of Parsifal from Bayreuth today at 4.15pm BST. Also being broadcast to European cinemas (although the only UK cinema I can find is the Warwick Arts Centre).

The individual acts now appear to be available on Youtube, although I don't know how long these will remain active:

I understand a DVD release is planned.

I'm going to see this production at Bayreuth next week and am really looking forward to it. It will be my first time at Bayreuth.
"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

Very jealous! .. I can get Arte via satellite dish but we've been away, so annoyingly I missed the broadcast.

    Marvellous! and thank you!

    The quality is good:
Video resolution 1280 by 720 pixels, frame rate 25
    Audio sample rate 44100 Hertzes

    Act One: 1,310,407,678 bytes

    Act Two: 844,692,806 bytes

    Act Three: 743,446,506 bytes

The staging though looks tremendously silly in parts and, having no relation to what jolly old Richard intended, may well be enough to spoil the whole thing.

I saw it in a cinema relay at the Warwick Arts Centre and was quite bowled over by it. There was a video glitch on the TV relay part way through Act 3 which wasn`t apparent in the cinema and which may well be cured by the time of the forthcoming commercial release. In the meantime, there`s a copy in the UK Wagner Society AV library open to members.
