what's left to get with L, please? is it L = lieder?
I was wondering if King Valdemar in Gurrelieder came into it.

Can't wait to find out if the linking "L" is the composer Loewe, "L" for Lieder, or the concluding "L" of the words Erl and Saul...![]()
"The isle is full of noises... Sounds, and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not"
The Tempest, Act III scene 2 ll 148-9
Well mercia's right that scb's clue is on one view very straightforward: "you have the answer" must mean that the L is "Lieder" as that is the only "L" word in the quoted extract referenced by scb. (And he says ferne has "one of the kings" - the only king in the quoted passage is Saul.) But somehow I fear it's not that simple.

I thought he was referring to the fact that fhg had named 'Loewe'.![]()
"Lieder" is the L. Erl King is the third king. Look for two more kings in songs by another composer chiefly known for Lieder.
Der König in Thule??
Don't really need to bother with the Erl King do we? Can't we get 3 for the price of 1 in Hugo Wolf's "Die Heiligen drei König" - the Three Kings from the Nativity?
I must go! Looking forward to that "M" from M-m-m-mercia who got "Lieder" as the answer!!We know you love setting 'em, mercs

Always read the question.... Should have looked before I posted.
Must stop now and tidy the house before the cleaner arrives.
