    That Damned Chamber Music Series

A friend of mine is a member of a string quartet bringing Beethoven, Shostakovich and other music to pub-goers in Vancouver.

@Victor Chong thank you for providing the pictures and videos on this site and for being our first fan!

    Love the motto:

Hoot, holler, and be sloppy at Logan's Pub while enjoying string music...

Also the "We encourage..... We discourage..." section

I imagine some here would love it, some run a mile!

    Thoughts?

(Is Flay still over there, up in the North-West? He can't still be on holiday, surely....?!)

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

OAE has gone that way too in building a new younger audience (in addition to their main concert and opera audience) with The Night Shift. It's been very successful. and I'm rather puzzled as to why others have not followed.

Jurowski kicked it off and has supported throughout.

That's interesting, veris ! Thanks, I'm ashamed to say I didn't know about that. I'll mention it. Don't know if it was an inspiration to our Canadian friends...

I quite approve of it, but I wouldn't go myself:

        We Encourage...

        Drinking beer
        Eating poutine
        Talking loudly
        Mingling with others
        Singing along
Cheering gregariously to the point of being obnoxious
        Dancing with strangers

        We Discourage...

        Sitting still
        Shushing others
        Contributing to other classical stereotypes

Throwing heavy objects, such as beer bottles, at the musicians
        Forgetting to tip

Bold = I would discourage what they encourage, encourage what they discourage.

But if they showed it on BBC One every Friday evening
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Don't think it's aimed at us, frenchie (though I did help OAE develop theirs).

It's interesting that the development of The Night Shift has had no discernible negative effect on OAE's regular concert audiences.

I have just refreshed my memory about poutine. This should probably be in The Refreshment Room but anyway:

Poutine is a common Canadian dish (originally from Quebec), made with french fries, topped with brown gravy and cheese curds. Poutine may also contain other ingredients such as bacon, beef, pulled pork, lamb, lobster meat, shrimp, rabbit confit, caviar, and truffles.

Folk music in pubs is S*** ****ing disaster usually. Classical will surely be worse.
People + Booze+ pub environment= self absorbed banter at excess volume.

Take the music out of the concert hall , but put it somewhere respectful.
                  Bus stations. Macdonalds. Eastleigh.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

                      ROFL.

The audience might sit in New Rose.

                      actually, sounds Sensible to me.

Surely rock/pop music IS chamber music.
Except for Mahavishnu Orchestra and ELO maybe.

Only in the same way that the O2 Arena is a "chamber"?
