    Default Phantom Word Repetition

Just now I posted a message, only to notice as I re-read it that I'd repeated a word, which appeared both at the end of one line and the beginning of the next. Nothing strange there - we've all done it. But when I went in for a quick edit, my text was OK, with no repeat. Look again - still showing. Edit again, and slightly alter the spacing, by starting a new line on one of the sentences, and everything worked OK.

I suspect I've just seen it on one of Bryn's posts. (M1 in the Blue-Ray thread, where 'Naxos' is similarly repeated, though he may have inadvertently input the word twice.)

    Anyone else noticed this effect?

Problem is that item is not on the What's New list - and doing a search for Bryn and blu-ray doesn't bring up that post either. Q: How does one track down such items?

Sorry - found the post. No repeat of Naxos that I can discern.

Strange - It's still there for me (under CD Review, 12:40 M1) 'However, Naxos Naxos are dipping their toes'.

Don't worry - it's probably another mystery like doversoul had. Some sinister force is trying to convince me I'm going mad and having hallucinations. I'll live with it!

I think I saw someone mention it before - but perhaps it was you!

No, nothing on the desktop Mac or the laptop PC. But then, these phantoms can be pretty elusive. I think you have to be of a particularly receptive nature, slightly fey

Fey? Moi? It wasn't me before. I'm afraid I might be getting some reputation of using some stick and string contraption here, covered in bits of Elastoplast, which is not the case!

I have since found it is some artefact on the monitor, in that if I try to Copy and Paste the whole sentence, the duplicate does not get put on the clipboard - a phantom indeed.

Oh no, it's not just you Don, several posts have the last two words of the first line repeated at the start of the second line, including some of mine, and when you try to edit, well, they just aren't there. Perhaps I too am a bit fey (or need glasses)

It seems possible that it's to do with the size of your window

If you fiddle with that, does that clear it?

Meanwhile, there is some joshing here to reassure you that It's Not Just You.

Edit: Looking a bit further, it may be an incompatibility issue between vBulletin and Internet Explorer, if that's the browsr you're both using.

It's happened to me - and I think I mentioned it. It genrrally happens when you edit the line and there's a punctuation mark of some description after the word at the end of the line.

To get rid of it, you simply reword slightly.

But it is odd - it's there in the display and not in the part that you edit. Cue spooky music!

Simon and Anna - I embrace you both! I am not quite as hallucinatory as I had feared!

I suppose the good thing is that, as Pianorak has found, others can't see the effect, so we, knowing it is a vBulletin bug as ff's reference suggests, can now just ignore it.
