    Radio 3 USA Road trip

What is the point of this other than giving the producer and presenter a free trip to the US? A place I won’t be rushing to …
Why is the BBC obsessed with American culture ? And will any of the thornier aspects of contemporary America be tackled in this jaunt ? I don’t think so.

Might pacify the emperor in light of his stated intention to take the BBC to the cleaners?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Unlikely, but who knows where he's concerned?

I'm with EH on this. I've never been that interested in the US or its culture (especially Hollywood) but will forgive the country for its many fine musicians.

The R3 US Road trip seems to me to be a pointless waste of licence payer's money.

Extremely unlikely as the current administration seems pretty determined to shut down what little remains of public service broadcasting in the US.

Yes indeed and believe me in forty years there I witnessed a fair few…
At one stage I was so exasperated with requests to film abroad on the slightest excuse I banned all foreign filming.

It seems as if Justin Webb has been chosen to tell us all about American classical music and poltics for the Music Matters US series. Politics? Yes. And classical music?

I was very impressed with Marc-André Hamelin’s live performance at 05.00 local time on the WGBH Steinway. It was recording quality . Also their Steinway sounds way better than the one in the BBC In Tune studio.

... also Scotland, obviously (all them golf courses!)

He’s married to an American WGBH producer who’s also a pianist . I wonder if he has US citizenship as well. Quite a sensible move I would have thought.
His live playing of the Earl Wild Etude on Gershwin’s Liza at 05.00 local time was absolutely phenomenal.

The BBC are subtly addressing the elephant in the room with frequent references to liberty and indeed a quote from Martin Luther King.

Now what’s that line about “Life , Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness?”

learnt one thing today - WGBH stands for Great Blue Hill the site of the transmitter ..

The trailer told me it was a 'familiar voice' but I didn't know who Justin Webb was. The whole thing seems an outdated waste: we can all listen to as much American music as we want without anyone going anywhere, , some of us without even getting out of bed , and I certainly don't want to be 'told' about it by someone who is as ignorant as a frog. I had enough of that with Katie Derham and Clive Myrie, who appear to know as much about music as I do about the Panama Canal. But nothing surprises me this crazy century.
