Yes, (though here we enter Pedant country.) Only in Portiguese (and if not at the beginning of a sentence). I'm not sure of the context in which R3 referred to them as Os or os Cupertinos. ??It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

(But I couldn't find it at first - it's chaos here, need to sort things out!)
Also found the Cupertinos' Cardoso Requiem.
Here's the start of the booklet section on them - in English & Portuguese (?) It does say "os Cupertinos" neat the end...

Or the Sixteen Harry Christophers?Originally posted by french frank View PostAs a group, they are simply called Cupertinos. If you were going to use the Portuguese definite article it would be Os Cupertinos, but they don't seem to use it as part of their name. The name derives from Arthur Cupertino de Miranda who set up a cultural foundation. If you're speaking in English they're the Cupertinos, like the Chilingirians or the Brodskys. I would have thought.

... thanks for this : have just ordered -Originally posted by oddoneout View PostSomething that did rather raise my eyebrows was this organ piece. I was out of the room for the first minute or so and when I came back thought that there was a heavy truck negotiating my road, but checking out of the window didn't show anything, and I didn't think it was aircraft noise. It was evidently some stop on the organ, but what an extraordinary noise - not a note so much as a sound effect!

Just listening to "Music from Renaissance Portugal II", Cambridge Taverner Choir & Owen Rees, with Stephen Farr on organ. Really enjoying this one, especially the organ pieces.
"Masterpieces of Portuguese Polyphony" (aka vinteuil's "MoPP, Vol.2") Westminster Cathedral Choir & James O'Donnell up next.
