Yesterday I felt Classical Live did return briefly to become Afternoon Concert once more . The Tchaikovsky Francesca was a magnificent performance with the woodwind solos all phrased beatufully and the central lyrical section most sensitively done . I enjoyed the Hartmann concerto, being familiar with his symphonies and Concerto Funebre, this was new to me.
How I wish ClassicaLLive could aways be like this. But I know why it won't be, only too well.

Agreed - absolutely superb and also absolutely live - direct from Maida Vale.Originally posted by smittims View PostYesterday I felt Classical Live did return briefly to become Afternoon Concert once more . Looking at the 'Music Played' listing I am slightly puzzled at the extra pieces inserted at two points into the live relay(and why the apparent duplication of the chosen Haydn quartet fillet, but that's another issue) - did they need 2 intervals? At least as a live relay there was a start time available.Originally posted by Ein Heldenleben View Post

I've just noticed that the Stanford has also been duplicated in the listing. AI with double vision, or hallucinating?

I can understand live listings needing a certain amount of leeway but it's the other 95% that causes me problems!Originally posted by LMcD View PostFootnote - in very small print - on page 258 of the Christmas Radio Times:
Classical Live listings are not comprehensive and content is subject to changes prior to broadcast.

Well, yesterday for a change we reqlly did have an afternoon concert, even if it had to give in to the compulsory Crimbo-fest which the BBC goes overboard with these days. Before I start sounding too much like Scrooge I oughtot say I surprised myself by liking Errolyn Wallen's Peace on Earth , which I thought was the best piece in the concert and the first piece of hers I've liked. It's towards the end , just before 'We Three Kings of Orientar' (where is that, by the way?
).

I thought the BBC Singers sounded a bit bored by it all and frankly I don’t blame them . The excessive amount of carolling on R3 is just getting ridiculous.Originally posted by smittims View PostWell, yesterday for a change we reqlly did have an afternoon concert, even if it had to give in to the compulsory Crimbo-fest which the BBC goes overboard with these days. It’s like living in the food aisles at M and S as they were about an hour ago. Another We Three Kings and I’ll just abandon the basket and run..,Originally posted by hmvman View Post
It's no better on CFM - and nay be worse!
(Unfortunately, Mrs hmv has taken to having CFM on most of the day and it's driving me nuts...)

I worked in a Morrisons store for 10 years and came to dread the Christmas run-up, with the aural torture starting round about autumn half term. There was a loudspeaker over the fresh food counter where I worked so we had the full benefit - including when the volume control occasionally ran amok and we couldn't hear ourselves think let alone what the customers were trying to communicate. Suggestions to just turn the thing off were refused as company policy was to have constant ambient 'music', and it wasn't until infuriated customers made their feelings known that anything was done. I think there has been a general agreement amongst the big chains not to start so early now. The local Lidl store, which has taken to the noise option recently also annoyed its customers when the volume got too loud - I gather a few customers did abandon shopping and leave. I've been using Lidl less and less for various reasons but the presence of ambient 'music', aka unnecessary and unwanted noise pollution, is another deterrent.Originally posted by Ein Heldenleben View Post
