Tonight (13/05/2025), as part of the pre Proms visiting orchestra promotions, we get the Danish National Symphony Orchestra.
But if the pianist is performing before the orchestra takes centre stage with Evening Land, why is that the first item in the programme?
Surely even AI shouldn't get this wrong!

Martin Handley continues a week of concerts celebrating some of the world-class orchestras visiting the BBC Proms this summer. Today the Danish National Symphony Orchestra is joined by pianist Khatia Buniatishvili to perform Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No 2, before the orchestra takes centre stage with Bent Sørensen's Evening Land and Mahler's Symphony No 1. Recorded at DR Concert House, Copenhagen.

    Bent Sørensen: Evening Land
Rachmaninov: Piano Concerto No 2 in C minor, Op. 18

    Interval music:
Dvorak: 4 Romantic Pieces, Op. 75
    Renaud Capuçon (violin)
    Khatia Buniatishvili (piano)

    c. 8.45pm
Mahler: Symphony No 1 in D major

    Khatia Buniatishvili (piano)
    Danish National Symphony Orchestra
    Fabio Luisi (conductor)

Under the normal pattern of overture/concerto/symphony we'd expect the Sorensen first. We'll see. My guess is that the 'before ' comment is just ignorance.

In my experience it’s precisely those sorts of things that AI gets wrong.

Perhaps because the humans it is learning from are not that good?

There is so much compression and ill focused sound in this concert it’s almost unlistenable. It’s creating a completely unrealistic piano sound and the orchestra sound like they are in a different room the piano so forward in the balance.
Khatia also needs to slow down a bit …

In contrast to the Rach 2 above this performance last Wednesday was exceptionally fine. So lyrical and with orchestra and soloist so well attuned. Fischer’s phrase shaping is outstanding. That flexibility of orchestral tempo rivals that of a pianist.

The Budapest Festival Orchestra under music director Ivan Fischer performs Brahms' 2nd Symphony, with pianist Vadym Kholodenko joining them for the composer's 2nd Piano Concerto.

I'm astonished at the sheer beauty of the sounds that Paul Lewis is managing to produce.in tonight's concert.

And tonight's R3 in Concert starts with an intriguing rarity : George Walker's Sinfonia no.5, written,I'm told , at the age of 91. Move over, Havergal Brian; you may have a rival.

'An unrelentingly modernist work' (Kennedy Center) 'suffused with anger' (Edward Gardner) composed in reaction to a shocking event in Charleston.

Good programming with the embittered and angry Walton first symphony to round matters off and a more stoical Bernstein Serenade as the filler.
LSO / Pappano will guarantee high standards.

Goodness, only heard the first half, but weren't the Bournemouth players up for it! Demob-happy perhaps, as it was the last concert of their season.

Could perhaps have done with a bit more 'swing' but very enjoyable.

Ah, I see...not very good on 'swing' aspects. I was listening in the car too...
