'Have you met her new boy friend?. I'm sure he's very clever, he's definitely good-looking, and he's probably got a good job, but ... well, I'm not sure he's a very NICE person, if you know what I mean'.

Yes, I've noticed the female voice appearing from time to time. If I had the choice between that female AI voice and GM's inconsequential witterings I think I'd go for the AI!

It all sounds just a bit 'mechanical' to me and the same voice seems to be there for most of the time!

I listen most mornings and the chap is brief and to the point, as far as my Finnish will allow! He sounds like 'our own' Mr Ultimate Calm, Ólafur Arnalds. He plays a piece, leaves a respectful gap, tells us what we've been listening to, leaves a respectful gap, tells us what we are to hear next, when its finished, leaves a respectful gap, and so on.

So far this morning Berwald, Wolf, Telemann, Loewe, Pergolesi, Kuhlau, Handel, Glinka, JS Bach, Tchaikovsky, Skalkottas, Bright, Sjögren (...no I didn't either!)..........

The chat is for the small minority of lonely, isolated people who benefit from babble. Radio 3 is now one of those sad channels which tries to justify itself through social therapy, rather than art. (Thanks to the toadying Arts Council, subsidised live theatre is in the same, sinking boat.)
For what it's worth - I'm neither lonely nor isolated, and I don't think I've ever shouted at my radio in my (now pretty long) life. I have no trouble blanking out the babble and 'tuning in again' when it finishes. The trails are very annoying, but I've simply come to accept them.

I'm probably a hardline extremist in this (if so, it makes up for being a wishy-washy moderate in everything else), but I think the, in this case, music content is important and the best presenters don't want to be commented on or noticed, and aren't. Once people do start commenting, it's clear that these are just personal preferences, one man's meat &c, and opinions are pretty uninteresting to others - unless they share them, pro or anti, about an individual. At which point they pile in with their love-ins and hate-ins .

Content in this context is the music chosen and the format in which it's presented (all short pieces, a few long pieces, live or recordings, presenter input limited to music comment and information or other interposed speech features of various sorts, in which case it becomes a magazine programme rather than a music programme).
