Lindberg has done two Cds of Weiss for BIS, Roger, but you probably know that already! What a fine composer he was for the lute, it's perfect late night listening, I find.
One of Lindberg's finest discs for me is the one of Elizabethan lute duets with Paul O'Dette....dates from the 80s. What music making and that lovely BIS recording!

Yes, there's something 'domestic' about the solo instrument, isn't there....the same with the solo cello, and I'm currently playing through the Bach Suites with David Watkins, who died so young, having had to give up playing far too early (lovely recording on Resonus label).
Yes, that duetting with O'Dette is great....and actually O'Dette made some fine solo recordings on Harmonia Mundi - I remember their rep telling me he always looked forward to their annual meetings in HM's impressive chateau headquarters down your way, I think.

Ah, I keep meaning to get those Watkin/Bach discs. Saw him many times when he was young at AAM/OAE concerts, what a tragic loss.
Yes, I have the complete Dowland set O'Dette did for HM .... interesting to compare him with Lindberg.
I went to the HM HQ some years ago..just up the road from here. A beautiful place but HM moved out some years ago.

I've just listened to their Six Op.18 quartets and found them absolutely ideal to my ears. Gorgeous performances and recordings.

... hi Micky - not quite sure which performers you are referring to here - could you advise?

I think it's the Chiaroscuro(i?) but MickyD will no doubt confirm!

Sorry for not being clearer. Yes, it was indeed the Chiaroscuros and the discs make me want to investigate their Schubert and Haydn. If they are as good as these Beethoven recordings, I'll be very happy. I was listening to them on headphones and the BIS recording is sublime.

Any other fans here of the Schuppanzigh Quartet’s disc with op 18/4 and op 59/3?

Now that would be something. I don’t know what kind of something though…

No, a far more recent grouping led by the violinist Anton Steck.

As did Ms Stoatfoe, an ex-Harmonia Mundiste.

Yes, she does, and I also recall one of the reps who went off to be a professional tenor. I think that counts.

That's so sad to hear, I would have dearly loved to work in such an environment but never knew how to get my foot in the door. So I stayed in television, which wasn't so bad!

Ah yes, I can't deny that ITV paid well. I wonder if there was as much bitchiness and backstabbing in your industry?
