    Filing some SACDs today I discovered the Munch/Boston record. While impressive sounding for 1955, I think the Monteux from a few years later has a much more open presence which greatly adds to its Pastoral setting. Some of this is due to engineering but I suspect some is due to the conductors themselves. Monteux seems to luxuriate in the harmonies while Munch has more solidity in his sound

      I think both are excellent but if you said I could only keep one recording it would always be the Monteux.
