Very sad to hear of the sudden death of conductor Ronald Corp, aged 74. He made so many fine recordings, particularly for Hyperion.

A bit uncanny this for me - I was driving to Suffolk from Yorkshire this evening and having got bored with the CD in the player switched to Radio 3 to hear a pretty terrible Friday Night is Music Night . What for example the ghastly “ Impossibke Dream” has to do with VE Day was not explained .
As I listened to some of the light music stuff I just thought Ronald Corp does this do much better - RIP.

I knew his work from his light music recordings, immaculate performances of delightful music rescued from oblivion, and I didn't know he was a composer until recently. Only last week I was listening to his cello concerto played by Alice Neary. His death is a loss to music-making and my sympathy is to his family and friends.

I think the light music collections show off his talent brilliantly. Let's not forget either that wonderful rediscovery of Sidney Jones' The Geisha' he made, absolutely fizzing with humour, sheer delight.
I also love his version of Britten's Ceremony of Carols, coupled with 'Friday Afternoons' made for Naxos which has a youthful freshness.
