I last watched Alexander Nevsky well over 50 years at Durham University Film Soc (Geog Lecture Theatre) and can also remember being overwhelmed. I think I'm just about due another screening.

It's available on YouTube, including a version with a re-recorded score.

There are two or three available. I was trying to work out yesterday which one might be the best to watch.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I imagine it would be quite taxing to procure an accurate full orchestral accompaniment to a film. One would assume several retakes during an original studio production,

            Thanks for the nudge.

UoY music library is hopeless for browsing the stacks because of its crazy cataloguing system.
Found this even cheaper elsewhere, so ordered and to be delivered before Christmas.
Worth the gamble that I'll learn something.

A biography of Sergey Prokofiev, one of Russia'a most famous and enduring composers, whose music was not recognised in his own country until after his death.

The Mosfilm site has an excellent print but the original soundtrack does the Music no favours.
