      A plug for Chichester's recent all-Weelkes CD:

What Joy So True. Regent: REGCD571. Buy CD online. The Choir of Chichester Cathedral, the Rose Consort of Viols, Charles Harrison

One of the soloists (countertenor) is the composer of one of the Quaker Trilogy pieces (see Quakerism thread): he moved from York to Chichester but is now freelance in London.
He tells me he was on standby for this broadcast but is now not needed.

A Service for Advent with Carols, from the Chapel of St John’s College, Cambridge will not be a live brodcast on Sunday 3 Dec as it was recorded last Sunday on 26 Nov. This followed their first Advent Carol Service the day before.

Didn't this well-loved service used to be broadcast live from the college chapel?

It's often broadcast live but it seems normal practice to record it when the first Sunday of Advent lies outside full term, as it does this year. This was also the case in 2017 and 2018.

4.40 pm - Politics not allowed during Choral Evensong.

Poor old Weelkes, the viols were sounding particularly lovely, and so was the choir.

4.45 pm - ah, back online. Lovely!

Well it was live today - and went dead at 4-20. So what did they do after making the announcement that the broadcast had been stopped? Yep, put on a loud advert. Too bad if you had been entering into the spirit of the service...Followed by snippet of Prokofiev Cinderella.
                  4-45 service has now resumed.
Sorry that should have been 4-40pm.

Yes! The choir and clergy must feel quite miffed. I hope this never happens at Truro.

Well if Truro doesn’t invest in fossil fuel businesses, it’ll hopefully be ok!

Nothing quite like today's interruption, although there was one occasion during a live broadcast when a member of the congregation made a very loud snorting noise during a couple of bars rest in Maurice Greene's beautiful anthem Lord, let me know mine end. He must have know exactly where in the piece this aural intrusion would be most effective, and the microphones duly picked it up clearly. This fellow had been a psychiatrist who had gone slightly loopy himself. Occasionally he would sit throughout Evensong with a hymn book placed on top of his head; on other occasions he would listen from underneath an open umbrella. Yes, I've seen it all in my time!

A few years ago there was an Advent broadcast from Bath Abbey in which a member of the congregation, seated near the front, bawled out 'Rejoice! Rejoice!' in each verse of O come, O come, Emmanuel slightly ahead of the choir.
