Hello, yes, this is one of the best, if you like classical music. They play a very broad range but all the best traditional items with nothing too discordant. And they feature complete performances - they rarely split works. Jazz comes on in the evenings, which is when we switch off, as we don't like modern jazz. It's been around a while, and was actually quite an amazing school project by some boys from Brest many years ago. Local stations - ours down here in Lot et Garonne is 47 and not particularly good - are a mixed bunch, but there are also a lot to choose from so you can usually find something worth hearing on the car radio as you travel around. Closer to the Finisterre area of course you can get Neptune anyway - perhaps it also crosses the channel to some areas - but always it's available on the net anyway.Originally posted by Crowcatcher View PostI have recently found French station Radio Neptune which plays a good variety of WHOLE classical pieces during the day, with minimal introductions, (no tweets, texts, trailers or new bulletins) and a wide selection of jazz during the evenings and nights.

PC access won't be affected. However some internet radios will. It will depend on whether or not their firmware can handle the stream format that will replace the WMA streams. Many older radios will not.Originally posted by teamsaint View PostI didn't know you
could stream on demand programmes on internet radios.
But if I did, I would be bloody annoyed at the BBc changing this without consulting us.
Xtypical !!
( how does one access on demand on an internet radio?)
Edit: Rads, I assume this is not relevant to PC access?
As to how internet radios play on-demand content, that varies from model to model but most have a simple menu option to select programmes. Some have the ability to pause and skip forward or back. I use a Squeezebox Radio in the kitchen and I believe this will still play on-demand after the change, which might explain the high prices they are fetching on Ebay (Logitech no longer produce them.)
Here are another couple of relevant links...

Are there really some older models which will only do WMA? I thought that mp3 would also be provided, though that in itself might not help. There are server programs which can do on the fly transcoding. Maybe Plex would be useful for this purpose. Having said that, I've not been too successful with transcoding in the past.

Does this have anything to do with the fact that the 320Kbps stream of Radio 3 on iTunes is no longer available, just the 128Kbps version?"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Isn't it just the Windows Media Player format that is being discontinued? You can still use other supported streams via Windows.Originally posted by Radio64 View PostIt's happened...
No more BBC Radio on Windows Mobile Phone for me ... 'Tis a very sad day.

Sorry, I'm no expert so I don't know! All I know is that the app I was using doesn't do it anymore. If anyone could point me in the direction of an alternative, I'd be very grateful (bearing in mind I'm not in the UK).Originally posted by Don Petter View PostIsn't it just the Windows Media Player format that is being discontinued? Have to admit that I am regretting buying N*ki a Windows instead of a S* msu ng android a few months ago. Apps are almost always available for android and Apple, yet Windows is more often than not missing and not even taken into consideration.Originally posted by Don Petter View PostHope you find one.
