Nice one, but I suspect it's more to do with the side of the bin (if you think of the pedal as the front) the actual release mechanism is.
Posh bins probably have a Y-shaped mechanism to distribute the force equally on both sides!
I think part of the answer is that when I depress the pedal the front of the bin itself lifts very slightly off the floor. Something must then cause it to return to the floor in a slightly different place.
Again, not so much a grumble ( thought it could be) , more amazement.
There was a crew in a large lorry re- painting white lines on the roads close to our house after 11.00 pm on Sunday night.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Perhaps because there is less traffic, both to be managed and to remove the markings before they have cured fully?
Which reminds me, in recent years the road markings in my home town appear to be designed for repeat business purposes, as they have worn off in a matter of months. I suspect the paint has been promoted as quick-drying thus reducing traffic interruptions, but if it then has to be repeated at frequent intervals that doesn't become an advantage - except to the businesses involved already probably raking in a 'council pricing' premium, before even allowing for the repeat business. There has been a lot of repainting activity in the past couple of weeks and the paint seems thicker so perhaps it will last longer...

Seems likely OOO. When the County Council want to do roadworks in the village they put up signs forbidding street parking during specified hours - it is amazing the number of cars still parked in the street when the parking ban is meant to have commenced!

How do they do the painting? I was surprised to see yellow lines not being painted on. A long yellow strip was put in place and 'welded' on with a flame gun. But perhaps we've only just caught up with the rest of the world: last thing I'd seen was a small trolley-like affair being trundled along by the side of the gutter and leaving a sometimes wobbly white line..
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
According to my morning radio programme, it's 'International Podcast Day'.
Perhaps they could celebrate by finding a more appropriate name for these now ubiquitous internet broadcasts, rather than harking back to a discontinued Apple product.
Having spent about 3 hours, going into town on the bus yesterday (and coming back again) to have the Co-op Bank explain to me exactly how to open a savings account (no, you have to do it online) to go with our community group's current account, I spent about an hour online this morning filling in the form as instructed yesterday until I got to the end and had to 'sign' the document, apparently with an Adobe Acrobat accounti which in my case I had not got, and while I was fiddling with Adobe verification emails in which I had to fill in my email password (no, not your email password, you fool!!) I could get no further, and without having clicked a Submit button for my application.
I then spent half an hour on the phone with the excellent Lisa explaining that she could neither help me with completing the application nor see whether there was any trace of a (half-) completed application. She disappeared for about 10 minutes to confer with superiors, took me through a series of webpages and confirmed she could be of no further help. Try again with the online application. We then had a laugh when I said I was about to become abusive to a staff member, throw rocks through the branch office's window and let down car tyres.
I am now sufficiently well fed to try again with the online application ... (signed, the Hon. Treasurer)

... well, that'll learn you to have dealings with commie organizations!
You're vindicated, monsieur. I had two replies from the banlk (one for each attempt) but they went strtraight into my junk folder. The corporate tech firms know misinformation when they spot it ...

I have known road markers to get in some strong arm brigade in to bounce obstructing parked cars away from kerbs and re-bounce them back after finishing the operation!
I had a very strange experience this evening. The phone rang, and a man asked if he was speaking to the resident at the address he stated. I said yes. He then asked me if I had reported a gas explosion on, I think it was, the 14 September. I said no, and that there had possibly been some mix-up over address numbers, the number of the flat also being that of another address in the street, which goes under the same name as that of this block of flats. He then said no, this had definitely been registered to this flat in this block. I then said that I was unable to help, and that the alleged report of the explosion had not been made by me; I then rang off. Checking the phone number on 1471 and then dialling it, a message relayed that this was a marketing company for a range of products who had contacted me today, and would possibly be further in contact to recommend various products. I could find their website via Google. The name was something like Met or Net Research or Met Explan Research. I wish I'd listened more carefully. Anyway, the whole thing was most odd.
