Wine of the Week at Morrison's is a 'poor man's' Burgundy, Antonin Rodet's Pinot Noir 2024. The one they had last year (2023) had very good reviews, so I think it my be worth a dozen...at £5 down from £9.50, looks good value.
Move this post to 'Disappointments' - it's back to £9.50...I think it was last week's bargain which I bought a bottle of on Monday...which being a Bank Holiday they hadn't changed.

... Alsace Edelzwicker Special Cuvée Joseph Cattin
On the back of the bottle it has :
"a noble blend made of pinot gris, muscat, riesling, gewurtztraminer. Fresh and fruity, this wine develops delicious aromas of mango, melon, and grapefruit."
On the Wine Society (from whom I got it) leaflet it has :
"This Edelzwicker (noble blend) is bone-dry, exuberant, fresh and lively, with apricot, jasmine and rose florals underpinned by citrus and red apple... "
... how many fruit and flowers is a boy expected to cope with??
Anyhoo, it were right luvverly with the cold chicken
I'm quaffing a Bouchard Aîné & Fils "Grand Conseiller: Pinot Noir (there's also a white version of "Grand Conseiller"). It's a 'vin de France', no futher geographical indication. It did prompt me to look up whether there was any significance to the 'Bouchard Aîné' rather than Bouchard Père, I think Bouchard Aîné just means he was an eldest son of his father. I couldn't quite work out which Bouchard was the eldest son of his father, nor which Bouchard was his fils, as the family's connection with wine production goes back to the mid-18th-c.
The Grand Conseiller was apparently Paul Bouchard (1814-1898). Tesco sells it for £9.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Louis Jadot Beaujolais-Villages (2024) £10.50 with Tesco Clubcard - 25% current offer for 6 bottles = £7.88 / bt
A bargain for such a consistently reliable quaffing Beaujolais, which derives a large proportion of its grapes from the village of Régnié, one of the ten Beaujolais crus.

One of my regulars! Since I don't have a car, the 6-bottle discount is out, but I grab a bottle with my clubcard when it's offered. Might be worth pushing the trolley home to unload though, and then walking back again (about 15 mins) to return it.
Thanks for the info, vints: I'd associated the firm with Beaune.

Aldi offers this week include Château La Garde, Pessac-Leognan, 2017, down to £9.99 from £19.99.....which is cheaper than most to start with. Decanter gave it 90 out of 100, and Parker (traditionally stingy) an 86. Interestingly they had 2014s mixed in, but I had only looked up the 2017s so bought the six they had....the 2014 got good reviews to, so if they have any left I'll nab them Wednesday.
I've been enjoying a Spanish Sauvignon Blanc from ALDI's 'Grapevine' range, £3.99, indistinguishable to my palette from Tesco's Cote de Gascogne at twice the price.

£3.99 seems a very good price these days doesn't it Smittims.....along with the 'bargain' claret mentioned above we bought six of the Rioja which was another 'Wine of the Week', also at £3.99....I didn't mention it because I hadn't tried it then. We had a bottle last night, it's an ok young ordinary Rioja for everyday drinking.
Strange times (and bad news for Pulcie!) no Wine of the Week in either Morrisons or Aldi.....good news for my doctor who has advised cutting down on the vino as it might be contributing to the tinnitus I'm starting to suffer.........I told him I pour most of it down my throat, not in my ear!
PS they still have plenty of last week's WotW in Aldi, the lovely Chat. la Garde, a snip half-price at £9.99.
