    Follow request

Does anyone use the Follow function on the forum, and therefore can tell me what it does?
I've received a request (and have sent a PM back) and am not sure of its purpose.
Does it simply send an alert to the other person whenever I post a new message?

I don't think I'd even noticed the function, still less have any idea what it's for. This includes subscribing by accident which I understand happened in this current case.

Later: Have just pressed Subscribe on someone's profile page and it changed to Pending, so that maybe how it's done (member alerted to ignore me as I shall get tired of following them and go away). Doesn't yet answer why anyone would want to follow someone.

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I suppose that if we had a particular expert in a field of interest (who restricted posts to that field), it might be useful to get an alert to a new post, but many of us post on such a variety of threads that I wonder at its purpose (if that's what it does): felt a bit like I might be being stalked, tbh.

I got a fulsome apology for the accident (fat fingers on an unfamiliar phone, I think), though I've no idea where the link is that got accidentally hit.

Hmmm. Well, it was a Subscribe button somewhere: you can subscribe to Posts and Users and and and... I was in touch with AN Other beforehand to Devise a Plan and they reported that they'd received my request and could Accept or Ignore it. And should they not Accept it in order that we can find out what it does. This we agreed on and they have now appeared in my Subscriptions list. And that's it.

Now waiting to see if anything else happens. The latest bulletin will be posted here
