If you're UK-based and going abroad on a visit, it seems to work fine. I'm just back from a week in Brno and Vienna and had no problem with BBC Sounds while there. The key statement on the BBC's own website seems to be this: 'UK listeners who go on holiday abroad can continue to use the BBC Sounds app for around a month each time they go on holiday abroad' – wordy, but useful. Did it work on classical music shows especially those with a high proportion of non BBC copyright material? E.g the morning sequence programmes.. Not Record Review - that’ll be exempt through fair dealing I suspect. The guidelines imply that some programmes are completely unavailable.

I live in Dublin and have never encountered any Radio 3 programmes that are geographically restricted. This applies, almost exclusively, to some sporting events, such as Premier League football. I tried this morning's Breakfast and Essentials Classics on Sounds and all was fine.

It worked for all the bits of R3 I listened to while I was away – in fact there didn't seem to be any restrictions. As the BBC's own blurb suggests, if you're only away for a relatively short stay, it works just as it does if you are listening at home.

One tip I would give anyone doing this is not to attempt connecting to bbc.com – i.e. the material non-UK residents are supposed to be able to access (when I tried that, it became confused so I quickly abandoned).

Yes I think so long as you sign in there is not an issue - was able to listen in France with no problem this summer .

I did find , however, that when I was away from our house in one town my phone kept trying to connect to bbc.com rather than bbc.co.uk which was very annoying as it was not possible to log in - so I stayed logged in to my account after that .
