Three Proms to look out for following performances I've heard in Manchester.
Prom 33, Bruckner's 6th symphony. 4/5 star reviews when performed at the Bridgewater Hall late last year. Some of you may have heard another performance about 2 weeks ago from media City.
Prom 36, Ivor Novello. This concert was a riot when given in Manchester some years ago now. Inspired by 'Gosford Park' and why Ivor Novello seems to have been 'hair brushed' from the musical scene. Simon Callow a great MC and listen out for Mark Elder singing 'And Mother Came Too'. (I hope he does)
Prom 37, Elgar's 'The Apostles'. I have had a number of Spiritual experiences in the concert hall but this one will live with me forever. Mark Elder has fully researched an authentic performance. He's found a Sofur player. The soloists are top drawer. The musical experience of my life. (at 67) Don't miss it.
