    Other radio stations

Given the current drift of r3 might be handy to share some alternatives..

    First up is
Max Reinhardt who is still on Soho Radio.
His shows are uploaded to Mixcloud
He plays contemporary music, world music and exploratory music. And interviews.

    Here's a recent example:
featuring music from Colombia, India, Denmark and Palestine and our amazing composer guests who created the music for Young Composers 5 released on the NMC label: Will Harmer, Emily Hazrati, Millicent James & Alex Tay

I liked the Indian music from Madhuvanti Pal playing the large stringed instrument the rudra veena. An instrument I have not heard before.

Yep, Lausanne Chamber Orch. Renaud Capuçon tonight....unfortunately kicking off with Beethoven Triple Concerto never my favourite - but infinitely preferable to R3's 'Mixtape'!

“I’d rather listen to the Beethoven triple concerto”…that, sir, is a sick burn.

Yes, a fine Finnish.....but I also start my day with it!

BTW, YLE broadcast the whole of this year's Bayreuth Ring.....where was the BBC? Not a great one - I'm glad I didn't pay money to see it....few did, it was the first Ring in years with empty seats apparently!

Another vote for YLE Klassinen here. It's my go-to station on weekday mornings now.

WCRB Boston, Radio Swiss Classic and Ancient FM are my stations these days. So now I hardly watch any bbc tv and no longer listen to any of their radio stations.

                        Then there’s NTS

Chris Menist’s Paradise Bangkok label hits the NTS airwaves for a rundown of the best folk music from Africa, Indonesia and more. Reggae and Jazz rub shoulders with Gamalan as Menist uncovers classics; folk music without borders.

jury is out. It’s a bit easy listening style so far

driven here by the need to switch r3 Breakfast off.

Yes indeed, Global. I feel you frustration. For me one of the best things about Petroc in the morning was that he always caught me on the hop with something really unusual/ unexpected - that hasn't happened at all with Mr McKinney - I find him uninspiring. I had a listen to some Max on Soho Radio, but when he has guests there are too many gaps between the tunes.

Do we bother telling Sam Jackson and Tim Davie?

We seem to have completely opposite habits.

I listen to many hours of classical music every day and sometimes I do just want a random playlist of classical pieces, when it can be handy to tune to one of those foreign stations such as YLE online. However, mostly during daytime my wife and I listen to actual radio programmes as they are broadcast, probably more talk than music, as provided by R3, 4, 5, World Service and 4 Extra, hardly ever commercial stations. My wife is German and prefers Beeb output to home German stations which are so easily available nowadays.

Also, still plenty good TV on BBC and other terrestial, eg Storyville docs in BBC Four, which are always worth watching. We watched the latest one about Carlos The Jackal last night.

Just realised that in bothering to write this, I'm missing Gardener's World and will stay tuned for Have I Got News for You.
