While not wishing to question your judgement in these matters, Global, I would have thought this might be more at home among the idiosyncrasies of a Monday. Quite fun...wonder how old the film is? Fun!

10/10 JC - I was listening to a program of old Pakistani pop 45s by Chris Menist on NTS - obviously forgot to mention that or post the link...he finished up with the track I posted.

here's the link for his show
Chris Menist’s Paradise Bangkok label hits the NTS airwaves for a rundown of the best folk music from Africa, Indonesia and more. Reggae and Jazz rub shoulders with Gamalan as Menist uncovers classics; folk music without borders.

Thanks, GT. Just listened to one of Senegal and the Gambia - very good. I will explore Chris' programmes a bit further.

My Sister is living and working in Honiara on the Solomon Islands at the moment. Occasionally she sends me a tune or two. This weeks she sent me a record via Bandcamp of Natty Dolaiasi who celebrates the stories and ancient chants of the Islanders. I thought I would post the title track 'Sifoa' which celebrates the ancestors who formed the Islands out of the Ocean. I have been enjoying the record very much.

It's great - new EP of the same name released next week, Global. I'm looking forward to it.

I love the traditional calabash. A first I think - Les Filles de Illighadad, the first all female Tuareg group.

                Beautiful flowing sound.

Beautiful groove, GT. They make it sound so effortless. Great tune. I don't think I had seen the Calabash in water before.

This vid is from the Solomon Islands though I didn't get it from my Sis. It's made-up percussion and you can hear a choir (children's?) in the background. I have no other info on it. Great joyous sound.

After communication with my Sister in the Solomons, she tells me that they beat the plastic pipes (sometimes bamboo) with their flip-flops.

                    Bah Humbug.
Perhaps my esteemed friend Mr Globaltruth might find Lisa O'Neill's take on an old midwinter classic to his liking?
