    La Maison de la radio

It would be interesting to make a fly-on-the-wall documentary on BBC Radio, but the French equivalent had its UK premiere at the 2013 London Film Festival, and it is being released, at least by the British Film Institute, next month (January 2015). If you cannot wait to see it on the big screen, here it is on DVD:

Amazon - La Maison de la Radio - DVD

This latest gem from Nicolas Philibert (Être et avoir) offers illuminating, funny, even touching access to a usually invisible world. A visually exhilarating celebration of the human face, it’s also philosophically astute in exploring the relationships between sound, language, reality and the imagination.

BFI - In the Studio - La Maison de la radio

BFI Southbank - La Maison de la radio + Nicolas Philibert Q&A

In the question and answer (Q&A) session before the special screening, Nicolas Philibert will discuss the mysterious world of radio, attempting to answer whatever is thrown at him by the audience. One question that is pertinent to The Radio 3 Forum, and the Friends of Radio 3 (FoR3) in particular, is whether we can learn anything from the French?

"Observing the preparation and recording of Radio France’s news and sports reports, dramas, documentaries, quizzes, concerts and chat shows, this latest gem ..."

News, quizzes, chat shows? Sounds as if Radio 3 has already been a fly-on-the-wall ...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

It does sound that way, doesn't it?

Upon reflection, this may not be as good as I thought, so by all means, give it a miss tonight!

PS It was interesting, but Au revoir les enfants was better, masterful even! Engrenages (5), on television, is equally gripping.
