At about 38 mins into the programme and not introduced by name by Catriona Young, we hear a single flute over a walking bass line and plucked strings which morphs into a flute duet. I couldn't place this at first but then the penny dropped, it was the "Air tendre pour le Muses" from Les Temple de la Gloire. The only recording I'd heard before was on Minkowski's Une Symphonie Imaginaire CD. Tender, but in a big-band sort of way.
In contrast, Alexis Kossenko and Les Ambassadeurs' performance has an intimacy which owes far more to Erato than Terpsichore. The sensuous embrace of the flutes is a dance to hold your partner ever closer, ever tighter, until your are one.Comment

Soler and definitely Haydn don't exactly come under ‘early music’ but it is good to hear Scarlatti on the harpsichord.Comment
