...presents a concert of music by Telemann with the Wroclaw Baroque Orchestra.

It is obvious what this means but if someone presents a concert of music by a composer with someone/group, does it not mean something different from what is meant to mean here? Or is this one of those new uses?
More Telemann tonight, plus Bach's Musical Offering, and later a welcome return to the Beethoven Missa Solemnis under the baton of Sir Charles Mackerras, from the ABC.

Still 20+ days left to listen to 90 mins of ravashing Rameau. But if you can only spare 5 mins, then listen to what was the stand-out track for me from last week.

At about 38 mins into the programme and not introduced by name by Catriona Young, we hear a single flute over a walking bass line and plucked strings which morphs into a flute duet. I couldn't place this at first but then the penny dropped, it was the "Air tendre pour le Muses" from Les Temple de la Gloire. The only recording I'd heard before was on Minkowski's Une Symphonie Imaginaire CD. Tender, but in a big-band sort of way.
Selection of Jean Philippe Rameau's opera and ballet intermezzos, dances etc.01. Zais: Overture 00:0002. Castor et Pollux: Scene funebre 05:4803. Les Fetes d...

In contrast, Alexis Kossenko and Les Ambassadeurs' performance has an intimacy which owes far more to Erato than Terpsichore. The sensuous embrace of the flutes is a dance to hold your partner ever closer, ever tighter, until your are one.

Soler and definiteky Haydn aren’t exactly come under ‘early music’ but it is good to hear Scarlatti on the harpsichord.

[ed.] this was excellent. I very much enjoyed it. Was it Brighton Festival that staged this work with Alcina being a fairground fortune teller and the cast holding up the translation of the libretto? I wish it had been filmed.

An excellent programme! It's good to hear brief yet informative presentation from John Shea. It makes a change from presenters wanting to be yer mate and talking banalities! I wish R3 had this crisp format throughout the day!
