    Interesting discussion on Nielsen....
Hmm, I know that soubriquet from somewhere, yet you appear to be without history. How can this be?

    Welcome back.

Thanks fellas. Apparently my history was wiped when I left. Oddly my avatar isn't displaying either. Guess I'm a bit rusty at this forum thang.

        Ah, avatar restor'd.

Turned the sound up a lot for the second listen, which improved matters considerably.
I think that one problem with the Gilbert Cycle is that it is taken from live Concerts at Avery Fischer Hall. The recording of 5/6 was made the first week of October 2014. By coincidence I was at concerts there the following week, Gilbert leading the Orchestra in Haydn and Brahms. This is absolutely the worst sounding Concert Hall I've ever experienced. In particular, the whole bottom end of the Orchestra seemed to be lopped off, and the top gets lost in a vauge haze. Cranking the volume of the CD seemed to help, but doesn't completely solve it. It doesn't matter if it is an SACD if the recording venue is this bad.
