    Haitink Bavarian RSO Beethoven Ninth

For those that missed it ( and indeed those that heard it ) it a lovely performance of the Ninth on Afternoon Concert just now . Lovely singing from Mark Padmore and Gerald Finley as well.

      Here's the R3 link: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00094c5

Bonus link, where you can both watch and listen, c/o Bavarian Radio:

Bernard Haitink ist wieder Gast bei Chor und Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks mit einem reinem Beethoven-Programm: die 9. Symphonie von Beethoven und "Meeres Stille und Glückliche Fahrt". Aus gesundheitlichen Gründen erhält Haitink Unterstützung von seinem Assistenten Nuno Coelho.

I'm in Munich and looking forward to hearing the Bavarian RSO under Jansons playing Richard Strauss tonight at the Herkulessaal. Diana Damrau has pulled out and Sarah Wegener is singing instead.

If the disc release is the same performance as the concert relay I would , purely at a personal level , hesitate over the solo soprano vibrato and the multi miking which gives to my ears too much of the internal orchestral detail ....

The Strauss was impressive but it was the quite stunning performance of Brahms' Fourth that lit up the Herkulessaal. Jansons was just back from a recuperative break, although conducting brilliantly, his rest didn't seem to have worked as looking, ashen, drawn and exhausted sadly he didn't look well at all. Maybe he should conduct sitting down like others have done such in the past such as Klemperer.

Some single CDs are getting quite pricey, even for an Uncle Bernie gem - is it saying more than the CAO and LSO recordings I already have?

The sound of the BRSO in Brahms must be quite something. If ever an orchestra was made for a composer.
