    Russian Vaughan-Williams and International Shostakovich

May I draw members' attention to a couple of cracking concerts in the new season at the RFH this October?

First, the Russian National Orchestra in this programme on the Thursday 4 October:

Ralph Vaughan Williams: Symphony No.6 in E minor
    Interval
Sergey Prokofiev: Symphony No.5 in B flat

    Russian National Orchestra
    Vladimir Jurowski conductor

And then on the Friday (5 October), this one by the LPO and RNO combined!

Tchai.... (You can arrive a little late for this concert... .)
Benjamin Britten: Lachrymae (Reflections on a song of Dowland), Op.48 arr. for viola & strings

    Interval
Dmitry Shostakovich: Symphony No.7 in C (Leningrad)

    London Philharmonic Orchestra
    Russian National Orchestra
    Vladimir Jurowski conductor
    Lawrence Power viola

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Possibly. One to play it, and the other to show how it should have been played.

I seem to recall that Gergiev needed two for his recording of it.
