    Rigoletto from the Met

I am afraid I have given up with this performance. Whilst Paolo Arrivabeni, the conductor, is getting fabulous playing and singing from the orchestra and chorus it is all so fast and four square, absolutely relentless thus leaving no space for expression. Giovanni Meoni, the jester, has a beautiful voice but has no time to sound involved. Nino Machaidze, the Gilda, sounds about ten years late for the role: her vibrato adds many more notes to the coloratura. Joseph Calleja, the Duke, is usually reliable but is in can belto mode tonight. I was impressed by Count Ceprano, David Crawford.

I decided to relisten to the NYO concert on iPlayer.
