    Garry Richardson interview

I'm listening to the most conceited man talking about his meeting with The US President-
talk about name-dropping! Is this really what we want to hear on the country's premier classical music station?
    NO!!!!!

    Who is Garry Richardson?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

A feature of the Today programme, occasionally broadcasting from a cupboard under the stairs if the weather was bad and he couldn't get into the studio.
Have given up on R4 in the morning post Brexit (and haven't even been one of those boosting the numbers for R3 instead) but assume he's still doing his slot, though he's presumably off in Rio at present.

Happened to hear a bit this morning - very boring indeed. Mr Cowan has not improved as an interviewer either.

(In contrast, have listened to some of Sarah Walker's interview podcasts on journeys lately - she's a very good interviewer indeed. Must be the water in her home town which she shares with Michael Parkinson)
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

And here. You live and learn - I'm not a Radio 5 Live listener

Don't you mean her town of origin, i.e. the Barnsley that's not in Gloucestershire, rather than her home town (i.e. where she now lives) which is nowhere near there (although, as I don't know where Michael Parkinson lives, you could be right anyway!)...

I've never been in Broadcasting House but I have this vague assumption that the different radio station studios are all adjacent to eachother and that the sports/news/music etc. presenters are constantly meeting eachother in corridors or the queue in the canteen and are all quite chummy ....... but perhaps I'm wrong

... not just in the corridors and the canteen, but also the pubs, wine-bars, restaurants etc within a biscuit's toss of Broadcasting House. Or so it was when I used to have occasion to consort with such...

I thought he'd retired: he's older than he sounds.

... is this a Barnsley peculiar, the 'sharing of water' malarkey? Because the bath is full of coal, innit??
